The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) held the Economics of Education Program Meeting, Fall 2024 which gathered over 180 participants, took place between December 5 to 6 at the Le Meridien, Hunsaker Ballroom.

Isabella Munevar presented her paper titled “Catholic Schools and Students Performance: Evidence from Chile’s School Admission Lottery” which examines the causal impact of attending Catholic schools versus secular voucher or public schools on student outcomes in Chile. It highlights improvements in college entry exam participation, academic performance, and college enrollment, particularly for girls, but notes increased dropout rates for boys with low baseline ability, linking outcomes to stricter discipline and higher parental involvement in Catholic schools.

At the conference also participated the professor Andrés Barrios. The Education Program of the NBER brings together experts studying the effect of education on individuals’ trajectories , as well as the effect of educational inputs and education policies on student achievement. The conference next edition is the “Economics of Education Program Meeting, Spring 2025” and will take place in Stanford, California between May 1st and 2nd.
