Experts and scholars gathered at Valle Nevado to address educational challenges and foster academic collaboration.
The second edition of the Education Economics Workshop, organized by the Human Development Lab (HDL), successfully brought together over 20 international experts in the field of education economics. From August 20 to 23, researchers from Europe, Latin America, and the United States met at the Puerta del Sol Hotel in Valle Nevado, aiming to explore innovative approaches and contribute to solving critical challenges in global educational systems.
The event featured distinguished academics from renowned institutions, including Miguel Urquiola, Dean of Social Sciences at Columbia University, who delivered the keynote address. Other notable participants included researchers from Duke University, the University of Amsterdam, the University of Chicago, UC San Diego, the University of Oregon, and Yale University, as well as representatives from the World Bank and the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF).
Throughout the sessions, experts discussed highly relevant topics such as gender disparities in academic trajectories, socioeconomic inequality in access to education, student allocation mechanisms to educational institutions, and the relationship between education and crime. This meeting not only allowed participants to present their research but also created a collaborative environment where attendees exchanged perspectives and forged new professional connections.
The Education Economics Workshop reflects the Human Development Lab’s commitment to advancing educational research and creating spaces for discussion that address current and future challenges in the education sector.
